The IAFF Local 1071 Elvis Reyes Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of City of Rochester Firefighter Elvis Reyes, who died in the line of duty on September 21, 2022. Elvis was a profound example of what it means to be a civil servant, having spent 20 years with the Rochester Fire Department, in addition to volunteering time training Firefighters in the Dominican Republic, and bringing equipment to Puerto Rico for those in need. He received multiple awards for rescues local and abroad. His commitment to the residents of the City of Rochester and his community were second to none, both on duty and in his free time. Elvis was there for everyone he came across; always willing to give a helpful hand, comic relief, and bring smiles and joy to everyone he touched.

To carry on in his spirit, the Local 1071 Memorial Scholarship is awarded to both children of Local 1071 members and RCSD students.
