Engine 17

Engine 17 shares quarters with Rescue 11, the Deputy Chief, and HazMat 1 & 2 in an Art Deco-style firehouse at 185 North Chestnut Street, downtown.  The Department’s Supply Depot, and the volunteer salvage company, the Protectives, are located next door. Across the street is a similar building that was originally used by the Fire Department Repair Shops, the Fire Alarm office, and was the quarters of Battalion Chief 1, though these departments have since relocated elsewhere.   The Public Works Administration built this complex of buildings during the Great Depression in 1936.  Engine 17’s firehouse, still referred to as headquarters, at one time housed the Fire Chief’s Office, Engine 14, Engine 17, Truck 2, and the Deputy Chief.

The apparatus complement at headquarters is as follows: Engine 17: 1994 E-One Hush, 1250 gpm Hale pump and 500 gallon booster tank.

Rescue 11: 2002 HME 1871Sle/Old South.

Deputy Chief: 2002 Ford Excursion.

HazMat 1: 1989 Pierce Lance (purchased from the Kodak Park Fire Department).

HazMat 2: 1992 Grumman Kurbmaster.
